In September of 2019, one of NRM’s Energy Advisors consulted with AJ and Sunny Patel on behalf of their utility provider regarding potential energy efficiency upgrades for their refrigeration system. Through a program they were paying into already (which is on your commercial electric bill) it was possible these upgrades would be eligible for incentives to initiate the project. So of course they were interested because how often do the companies who hold our bills give us money back?

For Valley Liquors’ walk-in cooler, NRM found opportunities for improvement in the following areas: inefficient temperature controls to maintain temps., old, inefficient evaporator fan motors, and door heaters that ran 100% of the time. Each of these were contributing to energy waste, and costing Mr. Patel more money in electric costs every month than he needed to pay.

All told, NRM was able to optimize their system to reduce their energy spend by about 8,000 kWh, and nearly $1,400, every year.

If that wasn’t appealing enough, the project did qualify for incentives, which amounted to over 80% of the initial investment being covered by their utility provider. And as for the remaining portion, Valley Liquors was able to take advantage of on-bill financing, and they were able to finish paying off their new solution through energy savings.

So there was no out-of-pocket expense to achieve their results!
